What is an AI audio to MIDI converter?

An audio to MIDI converter listens to an audio recording and writes down the notes: which pitch, when it starts, how long it lasts, how hard it was played. That is AI music transcription, and the result is an editable MIDI file: a standard MIDI file you can open in any DAW or notation software, change the instrument, fix a note, transpose, reuse the part. The audio itself is not in the file, only the MIDI notes.

How to convert audio to MIDI online

  1. 1
Upload any audio file or video file, or record directly in the browser.
  2. 2
Pick a model. Local runs on your device, in your browser, for free. Multitrack, all-in-one-track and audio separation models run on our servers and cost credits.
  3. 3
The MIDI draft opens in the MIDI editor, right here. Fix what you want, then export the .mid or drag it into your DAW.

Convert MP3 to MIDI, WAV to MIDI, FLAC, OGG, video to MIDI. Supports mp3, wav, flac, m4a, aac, ogg, aiff, wma, mp4, mov, webm, mkv, avi .

Audio: mp3, wav, wave, ogg, oga, opus, flac, m4a, aac, alac, wma, aif, aiff, aifc, caf, amr, ac3, mka, weba, mp2, au. Video: mp4, m4v, mov, webm, mkv, avi, wmv, flv, 3gp, 3g2, mpg, mpeg, ts, mts, m2ts, ogv, vob.

The MIDI editor

A real audio recording does not sit on a fixed BPM. The tempo breathes, the drummer pushes, the singer holds back. A .mid that ignores that is out of sync with the song by the second chorus.

Tempo detection

The tempo is detected from the source audio and the tempo map follows it bar by bar through the whole song. Time signature and key signature are detected too.

Quantization

Smart: notes snap to the moving tempo map, so you get clean note values without flattening the feel. 1/16, 1/8, 1/4: a fixed grid at the song's average tempo. Off: the model output untouched. You pick in the editor, before you export. Once the conversion is done, you can export the MIDI as many times as you like.

Piano roll

Every audio track transcribed, every editable note on one piano roll. Select, draw, erase and split notes, listen on the built-in synth, then export the MIDI data or drag it straight into your DAW workflow: Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro or any other.

The exported .mid carries the full tempo map, one tempo event per beat (527 of them on a three-minute song), so when you drop it in your DAW it stays locked to the original audio.

Which model should I use to convert audio to MIDI?

The models marked NEW and UPDATED are state of the art. The others are older, faster and cheaper.

Tempo map, time signature, key detection and smart quantization come with every server model. The model only changes which notes you get; the timing tools are the same for all of them.

Local Music To MIDI Model

Free
Runs entirely in your browser. No account, no upload on our servers: the file stays on your computer. One track. No tempo map and no smart quantization on this one, but you can still quantize the classic way in the editor, on a fixed grid.

Online Music To MIDI Model (faster)

1 credit / 60 s
Basic Pitch, the same model as the free local one, but run on our servers: same result, much faster on long files or slow machines, with the tempo map and smart quantization.

Online Music To MIDI Model v2

1 credit / 60 s
My own model: same architecture as Basic Pitch, retrained from scratch, bigger. Fewer notes than the original, far fewer wrong ones. One track.

Online Music To MIDI Model v3 (Multi-Track)

1 credit / 45 s
Built for full mixes: one MIDI track per instrument it finds, each labelled with its instrument.

Multi Track Music to MIDI model

1 credit / 20 sBest precision
Choose the instruments you want, or take them all at once. Two passes: first the audio is split into six stems (drums, bass, guitar, piano, vocals, other). Then each stem goes through a specialized v3 model, trained for that instrument only: drums as drums, bass as bass, guitar as guitar. You get one track per stem, transcribed by a specialist instead of a generalist listening to the whole mix.

Multi Track Music to MIDI model (Transformer)

1 credit / 20 s
A single transformer that listens to the whole mix and writes every instrument at once, no separation step. The one for dense arrangements where the stems themselves come out dirty.

Audio Separation Model

1 credit / 30 s
Choose the stems you want, or take them all at once. Splits the audio into drums, bass, guitar, piano, vocals and other, so you can convert one instrument at a time.

What to expect from MIDI conversion: a clean melody, a vocal line or a solo instrument transcribes well on every model. A full mix with reverb, distortion and five instruments on top of each other will need cleanup. The editor is there for that.

What it costs

The local model is free, without limit, for commercial use too.

Server models use credits. You get 30 when you sign in. A pack is $4.99 for 500 credits, one-time, no subscription. On the base model that is 500 minutes of audio for $4.99, one cent a minute. On the most expensive model it is three cents a minute.

Your files

With the local model, nothing is uploaded. With the server models, the source audio is uploaded for the conversion and kept for 24 hours with the MIDI file, then both are deleted. Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train models. Full details in the privacy policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is AI audio to MIDI transcription?
Accuracy depends more on the recording than on the model. Isolated sources (a solo piano, a single vocal line, a clean guitar take) transcribe reliably. A mastered full mix will require corrections, and the editor on this page is built for exactly that.
Do I need an account?
Not for the local model. For the server models, yes: that is where your 30 free credits live.
Does it work on full songs?
Yes, with the multi-track models. You get one track per detected instrument, or you can split the stems first with the Audio Separation Model.
Can I convert only part of a song?
Yes. Select a region on the waveform and convert just that part: only the selection is converted and charged.
Does it detect the tempo?
Yes, and it keeps tracking it through the song. The tempo map follows the performance instead of assuming one fixed BPM, and it is written into the exported .mid, one tempo event per beat.
What does "smart quantization" mean?
Notes are aligned to a grid that moves with the detected tempo, not to a fixed BPM. For the untouched model output, choose Off. For a fixed grid at the average tempo, choose 1/16, 1/8 or 1/4.
Can I edit the MIDI here?
Yes. Every conversion opens in the MIDI editor online, on this page: move, delete and add notes, listen to the result, then download.
Which DAWs open the file?
Any of them. It is a standard MIDI file: Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, GarageBand, MuseScore.
Can I convert MP3 to MIDI?
Yes. MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A and 30 more formats, audio or video: the audio track is what gets transcribed.
Can I use the MIDI commercially?
Yes, free of charge.
Where do my files go?
With the default free model, your files stay on your device and are processed locally in your browser. With premium models, your audio file is sent to our servers for the conversion and kept for 24 hours, so you can reload the job and get your audio and MIDI back. After 24 hours, both are deleted. Your files are never sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train our AI models.
